YOU'RE INVITED!
Join us at this month's official Breeze Block Radio Kick Off Party
Mahalo for subscribing to my Substack! I wasn’t expecting the support of 18 people right away. Safe to say, I think Substack was a great choice.
**Note: an earlier version of this post promoted a $5 cover. This show is now free entry and completely donation-based. PLEASE consider making a $5-10 donation upon entry to ensure that the musicians can be paid appropriately.
The official Breeze Block Radio kickoff will be hosted at The Curb Kaimukī on Friday January 30th at 7:00pm. The party will begin a few hours after the pilot episode of Breeze Block Radio streams live on Neocities. Big up to Justin Schiada, Nikki Nakamura (YOLO ONO), and The Curb staff for hosting us and keeping the natural wines flowing for our listeners.
Why spend your last Friday of January with us? Discuss all things music with the crate diggers and scene rats of Honolulu, get a chance to purchase exclusive handmade Breeze Block Radio merch, enjoy a roulette of natural wines poured by YOLO ONO herself, and live entertainment delivered to your ear holes by Jazz Story.
I am BEYOND stoked to be playing with Jazz Story again.
A band created and led by my guitarist (and ride or die), Gil Batangan that debuted at Hawaiʻi State Art Museum’s Capitol Modern. We’re missing a few honorable members, but The Curb is tiny so we’re keeping things tight. Here are that cats I’m blessed to have fished from their busy schedules:
Gil Batangan – guitar
Gustavo D’amico - saxophone
Abe Lagrimas Jr. – drums
Shawn Conley – bass
Kelsea Armstrong - vocals
Here’s a performance with Abe, Shawn, and Gustavo playing with the incredible Jonny Lam on guitar:
Everything we play will be rooted in the style of jazz. But in the spirit of mixed-bag radio programming, we’ll be doing some fusion/rnb soul genre-bending.
Here are some of the tunes I’m thinking about for the gig:
Space Of You - Ntjam Rosie (Gil’s rec!)
Come With Me - Tania Maria
Take Me Higher - Fertile Ground
I can’t wait to sing while you dance. And I can’t wait for you to hear this killer band. I’m 6 weeks sober so please have a glass on my behalf.
Please come out and buy merch so I don’t have to pay my entire band out of pocket! And please bring a friend in need of a sweet time.
No dramalanis.
Thank you for supporting your local working-class artist(s).
See you there!!!
Kelsea
